We have five girls on our team that are 9-10 years old. We belong to a Missouri 4H group called the Bluebirds. A few of us branched off to create our Lego team called the Wonderland Wackoz. We are all friends and enjoy share information and experiences together.
Team Research:
Our team researched the connection between the monarch butterfly and the honey bee. We discovered that the monarch butterfly will only lay their eggs on milkweed and eat milkweed to protect themselves from predators because it makes them poisonous to predators. The honey bee plays an important role in this because they pollinate milkweed plants. The monarch butterfly and the honey bee are both pollinators. Pollinators are decreasing in numbers rapidly. The two largest contributors to this decrease is pesticides and urban development. Without pollinators there would be no cotton for clothes or fruits and vegetables to eat. The decrease in pollinators creates a chain reaction that effects us.
